ilovetylermyers57 asked: I’m from Buffalo so I grew up watching the Sabres. When I was ten I finally tried to understand the concept of hockey & I got addicted. After that I never missed watching a hockey game even if we were out somewhere I’d make my dad or whoever I was with sit somewhere that had it on until the game was over. On July 25th 2011, I moved to a little town 2 hours away from Nashville. Although I can’t watch all the Sabres games anymore I still follow them in any way I can. I’m still a die-hard buffalo fan & I always will be, no matter where in the world I am. (:
→ Thank you for sharing! It’s stories like these that really make my day. :)

cartsandrichie asked: On October 14, I went to a Flyers game with my friend. It was my friend’s first game so she was really excited. The Flyers actually lost the game… BUT I brought a sign that said “Jeff Carter’s #1 fan” (lame, I know) and we were trying to get on camera the whole game & finally in the third period we got on the big screen. We got on because we saw the camera guy a level below us & and we said “hey, camera dude!” So, he heard us, and he put us on! It was so fun (: ahahaa.
→ Hey, that’s awesome! Sounds like a real dream come true. :D I’m glad you had fun & thanks so much for sharing! :)

sammasays asked: I grew up in hockey rinks all over the east coast of the United States and Canada. My youngest sister played and my father coached, and my mom, my oldest sister, and I were their number one fans. We are a strictly Bruins loving family and we had been season ticket holders for years. This April, my older sister suddenly passed away at the age of 29. Nothing will ever bring her back, or make her death easier for our family but the fact that Boston brought the cup back home this year makes it clear that Nikki wanted it that way, she wanted us to know she’s happy in heaven and obviously still cheering on the Bruins.
→ I’m truly sorry about your sister & I’m positive she was a beautiful, wonderful person. The Bruins are very lucky to have your family on their side! Thank you for sharing, keep smiling! :)

Anonymous asked: I know you already chose three stories but I felt like I had to tell someone this. I’m choosing to do this anonymously because I don’t feel comfortable for my friends to see this yet. But here I go…
It was spring 2009. I was in a horrible funk all the time. I was depressed. Just going through the motions. Numb. Well, at school one day a boy in my class called me a ‘worthless bitch no one cares about’ and that night I planned to kill myself. I got home and went to my room with a handful of my mom’s perscription medicine. I turned on my radio to WGN 720. There was a Chicago Blackhawks game on the radio. I was so facsinated by what was going on with the Hawks that I completely forgot about the handful of pills. I grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere Illinois, I barely knew what hockey was. So I got on Google and found some of the basic rules about hockey and researched the Blackhawks. I watched them throughout the entire playoff run. I’ve been an educated fan ever since. No, I don’t know everything but I’m learning. I never believed in fate until that night.
I guess I’m trying to say that hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks are lifesavers.
→ I decided to just post all of the stories since they are all really great. :)
& wow, that is truly amazing. I don’t know who you are but I’m sure that you are wonderful for just being you. I’m also very happy to see another fan of the Blackhawks! :) I’m honestly at a loss for words right now, so sorry for the rambling but I sincerely hope you continue to keep living life to the fullest and the Hawks are very lucky to have been able to find a fan in yourself. Keep smiling hon! :)

tastelesskisses asked: Well this year my boyfriend brought me to my first NHL game, a Ranger game, I didn’t know much about hockey but he played hockey and was a huge Ranger fan. My birthday is May 24th so I had bought a shirt from forever 21 saying New York 24. (My favorite number) It was the only neutral sport new york shirt I had so I wore it. While going I asked who number 24 was and he said Ryan Callahan. That game was vs the Flyers. So during the game I’d look for Ryan Callahan when he was on the ice. That game was his first hat trick, four goal game, and 5 pt game. We won 7-0. So after that I became a huge Ranger fan and an even bigger Ryan Callahan fan. He made me fall in love with the game and I went to many more after that, missing him after he was injured. His dedication and heart inspired me to go back to dance which I stopped this year after 13 years, put 100 percent into everything I do, and just all around be happier. Hockey does that for me now because of Ryan Callahan.
→ Wow, I’m sure if Ryan Callahan read this he’d be touched. I’m glad you enjoyed your first game and I’m very touched by your will and dedication. :) Thanks for sharing and keep smiling! :)

ovechtrik asked: this is going to sound so lame to people, but I believe in fate a lot. I’ve grown up with hockey, my house was definitely a hockey household. I went through some rough times with my family, my living situation and ended up in a house I hated, with people who I had to take care of, not cool. So, I met my boyfriend during my first semester of college (right around mid-season) & he said he knew he loved me from the moment he saw me walking around in my jersey “like a boss”. So, now six months later, I’m living with him in a safe house, with a loving family, and a man who can actually take care of me. & six months later, after bringing our love for hockey into one household, it was enough for the bruins to win the stanley cup. :)
→ Aww, that is so sweet! I can’t even form a proper sentence right now lol. I’m glad you two are happy! Keep smiling love ♥ :)

foreverandstaalways asked: This may seem like a strange correlation, but in February of ‘09 I went to a Rangers charity event with my mom. That night, I got a picture of Brandon Dubinsky. About two weeks later, I got the picture developed and realized I did not like the way I looked. That picture inspired me to lose weight. Now, a little over two years later, I’ve lost 60 pounds and counting, and I’ve been hoping since then to get a new picture with Brandon Dubinsky to show him how much has changed. For the better.
→ Oh my gosh, that put a huge smile on my face. And who says sports can’t change people’s lives? I’m so happy for you and I bet you are beautiful regardless of anything. :)

gottaloveit87 asked: I Definitely went to Pittsburgh alone for the First time Ever Five Days after this Year’s Winter Classic. The City’s Energy was Infectious, and all the Fans were Amazing. Not Only did I get to Watch Most of my Favorite Players Live and all at Once, I saw the Last Game that Sidney Crosby has Played to this Day. Makes me want him Back on the Ice Again, that Trip was the Greatest time of my Life. Except for Getting the News that my Favorite Player got a Concussion while I was there.
→ Oh wow, that’s pretty intense! Glad you had fun and hope Sid is back soon! :)

moxie-licious asked: Mine is WHL hockey related. It was jersey off the back night, and thanks to my friend and her husband winning a jersey in the auction, I got to go back and meet the team with them (the Spokane Chiefs). I got to meet Tyler Johnson, our hometown player who has since signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning, as well as the rest of the team. It was a bad day for me, my best friends dad had just passed away and I had been crying for most of it, and my friends told me just to go to the game to get my mind off of things (especially since I already had tickets). My day was made better by the Chiefs winning the game and getting to meet the team.
Hockey truly can make anyone’s day just a little bit better.
→ I’m sorry about your best friend’s dad but I’m glad you had a great experience overall! Keep smiling hon!

numberonenine asked: This happened yesterday at Flames development camp actually.
I sat down in the arena and looked around. It was small and there were about 50ish people there and 10 huge cameras. But I noticed this one guy sitting a few meters away from me. I was pretty sure he was Tyler Wotherspoon drafted in the 2nd round from the Portland Winterhawks. No one seemed to know who he was. I didn’t want to stare so I just looked away and watched the practice.
After awhile I noticed him walking down the stairs and a few minutes later, he walked back up. I saw him from the corner of my eye and I knew it was him. But still, no one else did. It even got to the point where I walked by a few people who thought that he was Turner Elson from the Red Deer Rebels. I was too shy but I wanted to say that it was Tyler Wotherspoon.
Anyways, I waited by the doors to get autographs and he walked through the crowd at least 2 times and again no one was of aware of who he was. I was too shy to say anything the first 2 times. But the 3rd time, I finally got up the nerve to say “Tyler! Can I have an autograph?” It was the loudest I had said anything to any of the players. He turned towards me and said “Sure.”
After that, everyone started flocking to him.
I felt proud for giving him the attention he deserves. =)
→ That’s so amazing! I’m glad you got an autograph and I bet you made his day! :) Thanks for sharing! :D

harperxteamsasha17 asked: My love for hockey actually really started during the olympics last year. In the beginning, I wasn’t paying attention, until one day my mom came home with a story about the USA hockey team, and how they were doing so much better than anyone expected, being led by the starting goalie Ryan Miller.
Being the patriotic citizen that I was, I was proud of my team for defying the odds people had set for them. What really got me to watch was the US beating Canada the first time around. After that, I decided it was time to check out the team.
The first hockey game I watched was the gold medal game; USA vs Canada. And I immediately fell in love with the game. I loved the fast pace of developing plays, the nerve wracking feeling that wrenched your gut when the opposing team almost scores, the complete jubilation when your team scores to tie in the last minute of the game.
That being said, it obviously didn’t end in my favor, but that was the day I knew I was going to love hockey for the rest of my life. My dad played hockey until he was 38, so my new found love brought back his love for the game as well. Its helped bring my family together, and helped me through the hard times in my life the last year. As far as I’m concerned, hockey was the best thing to come into my life :)
→ Wow, that’s amazing! I’m glad you enjoy the sport so much; it makes me so happy to see fans like yourself! Thanks so much for sharing & I hope you enjoy the next season! :)

hockeyobsessed: So my whole life I have grown up around hockey (my mom’s family is Caps season ticket holders and my dad grew up just outside of Boston playing hockey and watching the Bruins) but I never took much of an interest in it until last year when my family took me to the Caps home opener. I really liked the sport and started watching some of the games, but then I lost some of my interest during the summer. However, this year when we went to the home opener, I was hooked for life and instantly rekindled my love from last year. After obsessively following the first half of the season, I told my parents that I wanted to play hockey (where my only other hockey experience was playing street hockey with my dad, and taking skating lessons when I was 9). My parents thought I was crazy at first, but then my dad got me all of the gear and started (re)teaching me how to skate in March. Now four months later I have already finished a spring hockey season with 6 assists (and one time when I hit the post!), being one of the trusted players on my team (full of kids who play travel and a few who have scholarships to play hockey at college!), and being the most improved player in our age level(14-18…not the easiest thing to do!)…all because the Caps inspired me to play!
→ That’s amazing! I’m happy that you love the sport so much that you decided to start playing. Best of luck for the future and thanks for sharing! :)

skins-is-love: I have a hockey story for you (I may have told you this, cause I know I’ve told someone on Tumblr).
Anyway, my hockey story is that quite a few years ago, before the lockout, the Sens were playing the Leafs in the playoffs and during one of the games in Toronto, the people at the Corel Centre (as Scotiabank Place was known back then) opened up the arena for free for Sens fans to come and watch the game on the Jumbotron thing. My mom and my sisters all went dressed up in Sens stuff and carrying 2 tickle me Elmos wearing shirts that my mom had made saying “Go” and a large Elmo with a shirt saying “Sens”. We had a blast watching the game there with so many Sens fans all dressed up, and a couple Leafs fans as well. During some of the commercial breaks, there were these sort of commercials that the Sens people had made sort of making fun of the Leafs, you know rivalry stuff, but it was all in fun. Even though the Sens did lose that game, we had fun anyway and I’m sure that everyone else there did too.
→ Thanks so much for sharing :) & I am so glad you had fun :D

emmascrazyworld: This is my hockey story. It was Friday August 27, 2010 and it was the Chicago White Sox game that they host the Chicago Blackhawks. You had to have season Blackhawks tickets and be the first ones to get tickets to that game to met the players and get your picture with the Stanley Cup, which I wasn’t but we did have tickets to that game. So my dad and I went to where they had the Hawks (a gated area outside). There were people walking in with wristbands. Then we saw this guy handing out these wristbands to a group of guys and I went over there. When I saw the guy I was kinda giving him the puppy dog look to get a wristband, but it didn’t work. Then I heard my dad calling my name, I was kinda upset he called me over, but when i saw what he had i was really happy. He was like look and I saw a red wristband in is hand. I immeditatly started asking how he got it. He told me he saw it fall to the ground then he put his bag on top of it and picked it up. He put it on me and said walk in there and act like I own the place and not to be nervous. Next thing I know I was next to Coach Q with my hand on the Stanley Cup taking a picture. There was a one in a million chance that that would happen but it did and i will never forget it.
→ Wow, that’s an incredible experience! Dreams really do come true, eh? :)

erikreitz: A while ago my mother and I were at a Northern Lights game - they’re a Junior hockey team in Minnesota - and I was asked to participate in this little challenge they had set up. We had to put on the breezers, the jersey, the gloves, grab a stick, and shoot the puck into the net. I had no idea what I was doing, even though I grew up around hockey this was all so surreal to me. I had never been on ice like that before and I was so nervous. In the end we were offered either a book or a puck. I took the book. Later a girl I had met at the rink (her brother was goalie) and I were playing with those machines where you try to get the stuffed animal out of. I caught a bear, who I named Lucky.
After the game I went to the end of the rink and asked for autographs. They were kind enough to give me their autographs (boy were they tall to a 10/11 year old girl, haha) and offer some nice smiles. I asked Stephanie, she’s the strength and conditioning coach, to take Lucky back to the locker room and ask for T.J. Lokken’s autograph - my favorite player. He signed right on Lucky’s heart. It was the sweetest thing ever.
It’s been at least seven years since this happened and even to this day it makes me smile uncontrollably.
→ That is so sweet! What an amazing experience. :)
